Grant Thornton LLP – the U.S. member firm of Grant Thornton International Ltd. – has announced it will be a Founding Partner of IMPACT 2030.

A coalition of businesses created IMPACT 2030 in September 2015 with the mission of helping to achieve the United Nations’ 17 Global Goals for sustainability set by 193 world leaders – all designed to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and address climate change.

“Collaboration is one of Grant Thornton’s core values, and we see tremendous opportunities when we work together to help make the world a healthier, more prosperous and peaceful place,” said Mike McGuire, CEO of Grant Thornton LLP. “We look forward to uniting our team’s collective energy and creativity to support the goals of the United Nations, and create a sustainable world for future generations.”

IMPACT 2030 is the only business-led effort designed to marshal the power of human capital investments – and the first time that companies will unite their corporate volunteering efforts to address the United Nations’ Development Agenda through collaboration,” said Grady Lee, chair of the executive committee for IMPACT 2030 and the co-founder of CorpsGiving.

Lee continued, “We believe that corporate volunteering – when used in concert with the United Nations, peer companies, government, philanthropic organizations, academia and civil society – is a powerful tool to accelerate the global achievement of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. We are confident that Grant Thornton’s role as a Founding Partner will help to inspire the private sector toward positive action.”

In addition to sponsoring IMPACT 2030, Grant Thornton is launching an innovative, national volunteer engagement strategy based on the Global Goals, a move that will give employees the chance to impact the issues they are passionate about, individually or in teams, any day of the year.

“While international in scope, IMPACT 2030 is a blueprint for creating positive change not just globally, but right here in the United States, too,” said David Porges, head of corporate social responsibility for Grant Thornton. “This is all about local action, global impact and aligning our time and talent with other businesses to make that happen for the benefit of communities everywhere.”
