The American Cleaning Institute's exhibit at the 2016 USA Science & Engineering Festival will demonstrate for students the science behind the chemistries that produce safe and effective cleaning products.

The science behind the products people use every day will be demonstrated by the American Cleaning Institute (ACI) during the USA Science & Engineering Festival in Washington, D.C., April 16-17.

ACI’s exhibit at the Festival – located at booth #5607 in the Natural Science section – will demonstrate for students the science behind the chemistries that help produce the safe and effective products that enhance our health and quality of life.

Students will visit a series of stations to learn about the function of the ingredients found in soap. By placing colored sand into a tube at each station, students will learn what it is like to “formulate” a soap product, and will even be able to check how well their creation would clean.

Companies that manufacture and supply soaps, detergents and cleaning products apply an enormous amount of research, development, testing and technology into the products used by consumers and workers on a daily basis, in order to create the innovative products used in today’s homes and workplaces.

“In order to overcome the many challenges our society faces on our journey to be sustainable, we need bold and creative scientists to innovate new solutions for how we clean,” said Melissa Grande, ACI Senior Manager, Sustainability Initiatives. “Participating in the festival is one way ACI hopes to inspire youth to embrace science, technology, engineering and math and continue to push the boundaries of innovation.”

“The technical experts of today and tomorrow will be the innovators producing new chemistries that will reduce the water and energy resources needed to clean our clothes and surfaces,” said Darci Ferrer, ACI Manager, Environmental Sciences.

The USA Science & Engineering Festival, taking place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC, is the country’s largest and only national science festival and was developed to inspire our nation’s youth to seek out career in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

The festival is expected to draw over 350,000 attendees including local Washington students, celebrities and politicians.
