LOUISVILLE, Ky., Oct. 14 /CSRwire/ - Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) announced today that it has been included once again in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index. This acknowledgment marks the ninth consecutive year Humana has been recognized by the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI).

“We are truly honored to be recognized for the ninth year in a row for our sustainability efforts and responsible social and economic practices,” said Bruce Broussard, Humana’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “At Humana, the health and overall well-being of our associates, our members and the communities we serve is a driving focus in how we operate and conduct business. It’s gratifying to see our dedication being acknowledged, year-over-year.”

Humana was recognized as the industry leader among the other three health care companies included in the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index this year. This leadership stance came as a result of Humana surpassing the industry average across the three core scoring areas which include economic, environmental and social dimensions.

“Each year the DJSI acknowledges companies that have exemplified strong company performance on environmental, social and economic efforts,” says Jacob Messina, the RobecoSAM healthcare analyst responsible for the assessment. “Organizations like Humana that excel in areas of environmental and social policies and management, corporate citizenship, philanthropy, corporate governance and compliance are recognized. Humana is a leader in sustainability, helping it deliver on its commitment to support its members and the communities it serves.”

Responsible environmental, economic and social operations are priorities for Humana. Earlier this year, the company announced its 2020 goal which states “The communities we serve will be 20% healthier by 2020 because we make it easy for people to achieve their best health.” Humana aims to hold itself accountable and remain dedicated to helping people improve their health, starting with its own associates. The Humana 100 Day Dash is a company-wide internal step competition that’s designed as a social experience to encourage Humana's associates and their family members to increase activity and have fun doing it. Associates’ steps are tracked by pedometers or other wearable devices, and for many, tracking their daily movement becomes a new healthy routine.
