HanesBrands has been recognized for its employee adoption benefits by The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption for the fifth consecutive year. HanesBrands was ranked No. 4 overall and No. 1 in the consumer products industry on the foundations’ 2015 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces List.

“Being honored for the fifth consecutive year validates the company’s continued effort to impact the lives of adoptive parent employees,” said Annamarie D’Souza, Hanes vice president, human resources global compensation and benefits. “Our adoption-friendly policies give employees looking to adopt the support and benefits needed to move forward in the process of becoming a parent.”

Hanes offers a $15,000 reimbursement benefit to an employee adopting a child, with a $5,000 additional reimbursement benefit for the adoption of a special-needs child. The company also provides a two-week paid leave for adopting employees who have completed two years of continuous employment.

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption compiles the rankings from an annual survey of U.S. employers adoption benefits, including the maximum financial reimbursement and the amount of paid leave provided for employees who adopt.

“Employers who offer adoption benefits understand that the initial needs of adoptive families are no different than families formed biologically – it helps ensure all families are treated equally by companies,” said Rita Soronen, president and chief executive officer, The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. “We are elated to see more companies in the last year implement adoption-friendly and foster care-friendly benefits.”

The announcement of the 2015 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces list comes the month preceding National Adoption Month, a collective campaign to raise awareness of the children in foster care waiting to get adopted. There are more than 100,000 children in the U.S. foster care system waiting to be adopted. Every year, more than 20,000 children in foster care turn 18 and age out of the system without families.
