Boeing [NYSE: BA] was named “Eco-Company of the Year” by Air Transport World (ATW) at the trade publication’s 41st Annual Industry Achievement Awards.

ATW editors credited Boeing for “ever-more fuel and emissions-efficient aircraft” such as the 787 Dreamliner, 737 MAX and 777X, the company’s global effort to develop sustainable aviation biofuels and the Boeing ecoDemonstrator Program, which tests new technologies to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions and noise.

“For continued success, air transportation must also be sustainable,” said ATW Editor-in-Chief Karen Walker. “Boeing Commercial Airplanes understands this and has developed a multifaceted eco-aviation strategy that is collaborative, creative and innovative.”

“Boeing is honored to receive Air Transport World’s award as Eco-Company of the Year for our leadership, in close collaboration with customers, governments, research institutions and many others, to improve aviation’s environmental performance,” said Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Ray Conner. “This award is a recognition of our company’s and our employees’ dedication toward a better and cleaner future for commercial aviation‎.”

Boeing customers Southwest Airlines, Lufthansa Group, Air Astana and Ethiopian Airlines were also honored by ATW for their leadership in aviation.
