Tekserve, a leading provider of technology solutions for creative professionals, will present its next eWaste Electronics Recycling Day, co-hosted by the Lower East Side Ecology Center (LESEC), on Saturday, July 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Tekserve retail store, located at 119 West 23rd Street in New York City.

According to a 2013 report from the Electronics TakeBack Coalition, which was based on Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) data, more than 3.41 million tons of electronic waste was generated in 2011. Out of that, only 850,000 tons (24.9 percent) was recycled; the rest was trashed in landfills or incinerators. If not disposed of properly, electronic waste contains toxins such as lead, mercury and other harmful chemicals that can infiltrate our air and water. Recycling electronics can also help reduce energy and water use, as well as pollution. To encourage New Yorkers to recycle their electronics, in 2005 Tekserve teamed up with the LESEC to offer these quarterly events at the store.

“Tekserve is celebrating 25 years as a local business, here in New York City. Since the start, we have been actively involved in the community, striving to give back in any way we can,” says Mark Seibel, Director of Retail & Technical Services, Tekserve. “As a technology-based company, we feel it is our responsibility to see our customers from the beginning to the end of their electronics’ lifecycle. Not only do we offer a large selection of new products for those who are looking to purchase, but we offer repair services for our customers' current tech needs and finally, with these events, a means for responsible disposal should they decide that it's time to retire their gear.”

During the event, Tekserve is also offering a $25 coupon to recyclers that can be used towards any in-store purchase or repair, totaling $100 or more. In addition, recyclers can choose to participate in its eWaste raffle for a chance to win a new Apple® MacBook Air®.

While the Tekserve recycling drive is open to all electronics (regardless if they were purchased at the store or not), new and old, Mac or PC, there are certain electronics that Tekserve cannot accept. Please click here for a complete list.
