Simply Living Farm, in partnership with the Wenatchee River Institute and the Leavenworth Community Farmers’ Market, is sponsoring the first ever Sustainable Living and Farming Tour in the Greater Leavenworth area. Dates of the tour are September 13 & 14.

“Our mission is to motivate, educate and equip people to lead simpler, more sustainable and more fulfilling lives. When we saw how many people in the greater Leavenworth community were leading such a lifestyle, in one manner or another, we thought the best thing we could do is to help these people lead by example,” reports Dave Bartholomew, co-owner of Simply Living Farm.

“And the diversity of examples is amazing,” he continues. “There are straw bale houses and yurts; residences with grid-intertied solar electric systems; organic farms and gardens; chickens, bees, alpacas and more. All of these are real inspirations and an education for people wanting to live a more sustainable life but needing more information.”

The self-guided tour consists of numerous destinations in the greater Leavenworth area. “If you want to get information and inspiration for how to lead a more sustainable life, this is a great opportunity to do so. It will be a lot of fun and will include some spectacular scenery,” Bartholomew adds.

Leavenworth, Washington is a small Bavarian-themed town nestled in the rugged Cascade Mountains. People travel from all over the world to run the rivers, climb the rocks and hike the trails as well as to visit wineries, attend concerts and plays, shop, or experience the incredible culinary diversity.

The Wenatchee River Institute connects people, communities, and the natural world. We believe truly sustainable community is balanced on the triple bottom-line: environmental, economic and social sustainability. WRI provides adult educational programs, year-round outdoor youth environmental science, a community garden, local sustainability networks, nature festivals and barrier-free access to nature.

The Leavenworth Community Farmers Market (Der Bauernmarkt) is designed to increase access to fresh, locally produced foods and other products of local labor for all people. We strive to serve culturally and economically diverse populations, and bring together families, neighbors, visitors and local food producers to create community and social gathering; to enhance our quality of life and foster a sustainable local economy.
