WASHINGTON, Jun. 03 /CSRwire/ - Points of Light, in partnership with Bloomberg LP, announced today the launch of its annual survey, The Civic 50, which names and honors the 50 most community-minded companies in the nation each year.

Through benchmarking and sharing the best practices of community engagement, The Civic 50 offers companies a roadmap for using their time, skills and other resources to improve the quality of life in the communities where they do business.

For the first time, all companies with revenue of $1 billion or more can participate in the survey at www.Civic50.org. Applications will be accepted through Friday, August 15. Results will be published late in the fall of 2014.

This year, The Civic 50 consulted a panel of academic experts from major universities to strengthen the survey content, questions and evaluation methods. The result is a stronger – and shorter – survey. Panelists included:

  • Professor Bea Boccalandro, Georgetown University Center for Public & Nonprofit Leadership
  • Dr. Edward Freeman, University of Virginia Darden School of Business
  • Dr. Ira Harkavy, The Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania
  • Dr. Pamela Harper, Marist College School of Business
  • Professor Peter Levine, Jonathan Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service at Tufts University
  • Dr. Kelvyn Moore, Bentley University
  • Dr. Nicholas Pearce, Northwestern University Kellogg School of Business
  • Dr. John Peloza, Gatton College of Business and Economics at University of Kentucky
  • Dean Alan Solomont, Jonathan Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service at Tufts University

Peter T. Grauer, chair of Bloomberg LP, said, “As the world’s leading provider of financial information, Bloomberg is passionate about using data to drive change. By identifying and honoring companies that are making a measurable contribution to the public good, The Civic 50 is a natural extension of our corporate mission.”

Neil Bush, chair of Points of Light’s board of directors, said, “Points of Light believes in the power of volunteerism to transform communities and impact lives. Companies and their employees are an influential force in communities. The Civic 50 will help translate good intentions into sound business practices for years to come.”

The survey is powered by True Impact, a company dedicated to helping organizations measure the social and business value of their community and social investments. Top-ranked companies for 2013 include Morgan Stanley, Aetna, HP, Apollo Education Group, and FedEx.

Webinars offering technical assistance and support to companies interested in applying will be hosted by Points of Light and Bloomberg on Thursday, June 5, 2 - 3 p.m. EDT and Wednesday, July 9, 3 - 4 p.m. EDT. Register here.
