New Living Expo, one of country’s leading alternative health events, opens its three day run today at the San Mateo Event Center at 4 PM (www.newlivingexpo.com).  The event’s main headliner, comedian/activist Dick Gregory, will appear on “The Arsenio Hall Show” (www.arseniohall.com) tonight on his way west to appear at the event tomorrow.  The 81-year old Gregory (www.dickgregory.com) has become a passionate advocate for natural foods and is best-known as the formulator of the Bahamian Diet.  His most famous book was the best-seller “Nigger” and his most recent book was “Callus on My Soul”.

" ‘Alternative’ is becoming the new ‘mainstream’ as more and more people embrace getting back to the basics with their homes, diets and bodies,” says legendary event producer Ken Kaufman. “This year people want more intensive self-development workshops, and we’re selling out eight different long workshop sessions – it’s all about content at our show.”

The New Living Expo brings together cutting-edge lecturers, thought-provoking speakers, more than 200 exhibitors of sustainable living products exhibitors, local and independent vendors and artisans, delicious food, classes and more.

Author, activist and would-be politician Marianne Williamson is another high profile presenter this year. Appearing by Skype, she'll discuss her run for congress, and the challenges she sees for our world today.

Other special guests include Illuminati expert David Wilcock, and medium Gail Thackray. Ken Wilber, creator of the Integral Theory, will be featured via Skype, and other speakers include near-death survivor Dannion Brinkley, shamanist Lynn Andrews, former president Dwight D. Eisenhower's great-granddaughter Laura Eisenhower, Riane Eisler, Master Mingtong Gu and dozens of others. One special event staged at the Expo will feature "Quantum Healer" Mas Sajady, who will be co-hosted by actress and documentary producer Jane Sibbett, best known for her work on the NBC sitcom "Friends" (she played Ross Geller's first ex-wife, Carol Willick).

Attendees can choose from among some 100 lectures, special events, workshops and panels on a variety of subjects, as well as browse exhibits, taste natural food samples, hear live music, attend yoga/QiGong classes, peruse a world-class bookstore featuring alternative literature and hard-to-find books, and imbibe at the Organic Wine & Beer Pavilion.  For further information go to www.newlivingexpo.com or call (415) 382-8300.
