Nature’s Fare Markets, one of British Columbia’s leading retailers of vitamins, supplements, and organic goods, announced today that B Lab, the certifying body behind B Corp, has named the company a Certified B Corporation. B Corporations, or B Corps, use the power of business to make positive social and environmental changes. B Corp certification is a third party certification that recognizes sustainable business practices, and is to good business like Fair Trade is to coffee or Certified Organic is to produce. This certification makes Nature’s Fare the first Canadian retailer in any sector to earn B Corp status.

“Nature’s Fare Markets’ core values are already so in line with the B Corp philosophy that achieving B Corp Certification seemed a logical next step in the evolution of our business,” says Human Resources Director Claire Volpatti. “Our journey towards becoming a B Corp helped us to recognize those areas where we excel as well as areas where we need to dedicate more focus.”

Nature’s Fare has a strong reputation within local communities and its industry as a socially responsible and environmentally sustainable business. Winner of the Brock Elliot Memorial Award for Excellence in Retailing an unprecedented four times, Nature’s Fare is a company that operates on a set of strong core values.

To earn B Certification, Nature’s Fare had to complete an intense Impact Assessment, which measured the company’s actions against rigorous environmental and social standards. Additionally, B Certification required Nature’s Fare to amend its legal incorporation statements to include commitments to key stakeholders like the environment, employees, consumers and communities. “We have already made some progressive changes to reduce our environmental impact, and we are very active in our communities,” says Volpatti, “however by working through the Impact Assessment we were inspired to expand our efforts and formalize more of our initiatives.”

B Certification confirms Nature’s Fare’s mission, which is to “Ethically Assist Customers on Their Journey to Better Health.” The company fulfills that mission by sourcing products that are better for the planet and better for consumers. By focusing on organic, GMO-free, and high quality vitamins and supplements Nature’s Fare is able to support other like-minded companies and give consumers the best choice for their health. With headquarters in Vernon, British Columbia, and six retail locations across the province, Nature’s Fare is a growing force in responsible business.
