Mass Mentoring Partnership recognized ten Massachusetts businesses for their role in strengthening communities during the Corporate Mentoring Summit at State Street yesterday in celebration of National Mentoring Month. The inaugural Corporate Mentoring Honor Roll honors businesses that are strategically partnering with nonprofits to strengthen the mentor effect in their communities through the engagement of employee, financial and in-kind resources.

“The 2014 Corporate Honor Roll members illustrate what a powerful force for good business is throughout the state,” Mass Mentoring Partnership President and CEO Marty Martinez said. “It’s an honor to highlight these exceptional examples of corporate citizenship.”

The ten businesses honored on the Corporate Mentoring Honor Roll include:

  • ALKU
  • Bank of America
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts
  • BNY Mellon
  • Comcast
  • Liberty Mutual
  • Natixis Global Asset Management
  • Raytheon Company
  • State Street Corporation
  • The TJX Companies

State Street Corporation was also presented with the Ignite Award at the event, an annual award to a company for their innovative work in growing the field of mentoring.

State Street Corporation is a long-time champion of mentoring in Massachusetts, providing financial support and mentors to a number of programs including Boston Partners in Education. With MMP's assistance, the company launched a mentoring program with North Quincy High School in 2004 that now includes three other corporations in Quincy. Company executives serve on numerous mentoring program boards of directors, including MMP's. State Street Corporation also participates in the Youth Violence Prevention Funders Collaborative, a network of businesses, foundations, government agency funders and key experts formed to strategically align their efforts to increase their impact on youth violence in Boston.

"We are committed to increasing the economic well-being of the communities in which we operate through education and workforce development," said Michael J. Scannell, Senior Vice President, Global Human Resources and Corporate Citizenship, State Street Corporation. "In addition to the support from our Foundation, we enable community organizations to draw on the resources and talents of our employees, who in turn, bring a tireless commitment to their volunteerism and community outreach efforts."

The event also featured a keynote address from Adam Grossman Senior Vice President, Marketing and Brand Development, Boston Red Sox and Fenway Sports Management and board member of MMP, and a panel discussion on how Natixis Global Asset Management is working to strengthen the community through its involvement with Strong Women Strong Girls, Boston Partners in Education and the John Winthrop Elementary School in Dorchester.
