Employees of Cbeyond, Inc. (NASDAQ: CBEY), the technology ally to small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs), volunteered over 3,400 hours on behalf of 38 organizations nationwide during the company’s third annual Week of Service, held October 7 – 11, 2013

The company’s annual celebratory Week of Service engaged employees in 15 U.S. cities in skill-based, onsite, off-site, and/or family-based volunteer projects. Working closely with local communities and reflecting employee interests, more than 1,000 Cbeyond employees representing 61 percent of the company’s employee base participated in a record 68 volunteer projects nationwide, including 32 projects in Atlanta.

The theme behind Cbeyond’s 2013 Week of Service was "A Strong Tradition of Service" in recognition of the company’s commitment to volunteer service, a commitment that has been core to Cbeyond’s culture since the company’s founding in 1999. Employees were encouraged to celebrate the tradition of service by volunteering their time as cross-functional teams or to join different employee volunteer groups as individuals, and to leverage volunteerism as a leadership development opportunity by serving as team leaders.

In addition to leading and participating in projects at local food banks, parks, youth shelters, and homeless services agencies, Cbeyond volunteers also shared the company’s core business and technology expertise through various projects in support of digital literacy, technology and entrepreneurship at organizations such as Junior Achievement and Computers for Youth. Volunteers also served at least one Cbeyond non-profit customer each day during the Week of Service.

“Whether it’s teaching youth about careers in technology and entrepreneurship or sharing skills with local non-profit organizations, volunteerism gives Cbeyond the opportunity to improve communities while also developing employees and creating a vibrant workplace culture.” said Jim Geiger, founder, chairman and CEO of Cbeyond.

To provide diverse volunteer opportunities, Cbeyond offered on-site opportunities at its offices in Denver and Atlanta. In Atlanta, employees participated in a “packaging party”, sorting donated professional attire for Year Up, an internship program for low-income young adults. In Denver, employees prepared personal care kits for overseas troops through the USO, an organization that supports American troops and their families. Employee family members were also invited to join the effort through several “family-friendly” projects that kicked-off and concluded the Week of Service.

Throughout the year, Cbeyond offers a diverse array of community involvement initiatives in each of the 14 markets it serves (Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas – Fort Worth, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis-St. Paul, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington D.C.) as well as in Louisville, where its data center is located. Cbeyond’s Week of Service also kicks off Cbeyond’s annual Season of Giving, which takes place from October to December and offers holiday–focused service opportunities for employees.

Cbeyond is recognized as a national leader in corporate community involvement. The company has a corporate culture that reflects a passion for service, not only for customers but also for communities, and a commitment to serve the markets where it operates or where its employees live and work.

To date, Cbeyond employees have contributed more than 70,000 hours of volunteer service since the company’s founding in 1999. In 2013, Cbeyond was recognized for its commitment to community involvement with a fifth gold-level President’s Volunteer Service Award, along with the Open Hand 2013 Community Spirit Award.
