In response to the devastation caused by the typhoon currently sweeping through the Philippines, Global Impact has established the Philippines Typhoon Haiyan Fund to address critical humanitarian needs in the hardest hit regions.

As Super Typhoon Haiyan makes landfall over the Philippines, government authorities and locals are bracing for the worst. With a storm diameter of 500 miles, there are at least 18 million people in Haiyan’s path. The storm may also hit areas in Bohol, which is extremely vulnerable because it has already been damaged by an earthquake. Haiyan is predicted to be the strongest storm this year, with winds already measured at up to 195 mph.

“Major disasters require both short-term disaster relief and long-term international support to fuel recovery efforts,” stated Scott Jackson, president and CEO of Global Impact. “We are setting up this fund now so resources will be available to meet immediate needs after the storm and to establish long-term sustainable programs for rebuilding.”

Contributions to the Philippines Typhoon Haiyan Fund will support the rescue, relief and rebuilding efforts of Global Impact’s respected and carefully vetted alliance of U.S.-based international charities. Donations will provide people and communities in need with clean drinking water, food supplies, relief kits, necessary medical attention and safe shelter.
