Restore the Earth Foundation, Inc. (REF) announced today that Janet “Jan” M. Morgan has joined the organization as president and chief executive officer (CEO). Morgan will oversee REF during a time of accelerated growth, as the not-for-profit tackles massive large-scale forest restoration in the United States, starting with the Mississippi Alluvial Valley.

“I am thrilled to have someone of Jan Morgan’s caliber leading our team,” said REF Founder and Executive Director, P.J. Marshall. “We have undertaken an ambitious environmental challenge and with Jan’s track record of growing successful organizations REF is well positioned to thrive.”

REF recently partnered with the Lower Mississippi Valley Joint Venture (LMVJV) to restore the Mississippi Alluvial Valley (MAV), also referred to as the gateway to North America’s Amazon. The MAV is a habitat for countless plants and animals, a necessary way station for migratory birds, and the nursery for species critical to the food chain of the entire Caribbean Basin. At the same time, the area is home to approximately 770,000 jobs and the base for economic activity generating $128 billion revenue a year.  REF’s LMVJV partners have spent ten years studying and strategizing the most effective approach to restoring the MAV. One million acres of critical land have already been prioritized for forest restoration and REF is engaging sustainability-minded corporations, foundations and individuals as investors and donors.

“The MAV initiative is based on REF’s unique self-sustaining financing model, projected to yield outsized social returns on investment,” said Jan Morgan. “I am delighted to join a pioneering organization like REF that is restoring, on a large-scale, one of North America’s most vital environmental resources.”

Morgan is the former president of CSRwire, the corporate social responsibility and sustainability newswire. During the last 25 years, Jan has consulted with a wide range of clients from Fortune 500 companies to nonprofit and social venture enterprises. Jan holds a master’s degree in business administration from Duke University, Fuqua School of Business and a bachelor’s degree from St. John's University. She is on the Board of Governors of Antioch University.
