Tekserve and Lower East Side Ecology Center Team Up for 6th Year of NYC eWaste Recycling

For the past 6 years, Tekserve and the Lower East Side Ecology Center (LESEC) have teamed up to host free recycling drives. The event has expanded far beyond the reach of the first eWaste drive in 2007 and this fall includes 23 locations, drawing recyclers and their eWaste from all of NYC’s five boroughs. For the full list, see www.tekserve.com/recycling. To date, Tekserve and the Lower East Side Ecology Center have helped recycle 762 tons of electronics waste.

Sponsored recycling events like these are one of the easiest ways for New Yorkers to properly dispose of their old electronic gear and gadgets, which contain hazardous materials such as lead, cadmium, and mercury. Discarded electronics represent only 2% of America’s trash in landfills, but account for over 70% of the toxic materials contained in landfills.

A quarterly event, the eWaste Recycling Drive is free and open to New York City-area residents, small businesses (50 or fewer employees), and non-profits.

Tekserve is offering recyclers a Green Karma Coupon for participating in the eWaste events. Each individual coupon is valued anywhere from $5 to $500 to spend at Tekserve. Recyclers are also eligible to enter a raffle to win a new MacBook Air. Winners are announced at the end of each eWaste series.
