"Creating Shared Value" co-author Mark Kramer will teach the November course.

The Shared Value Initiative, a global community of practice for advancing shared value knowledge and practice, announces a unique new executive education course, “Gain Competitive Advantage through Shared Value,” on November 12-14, 2013 in New York City.

This course was developed by Professor Michael E. Porter and Mark Kramer, co-authors of the Harvard Business Review article “Creating Shared Value,” based on their extensive experience building shared value strategies globally.  Participants will learn how to create shared value at their companies, including detailed approaches and frameworks to identify, build and implement shared value initiatives as well as a roadmap for integrating shared value into the enterprise.

Course Highlights:

  • Instruction by Mark Kramer, thought leader of shared value, Justin Bakule, executive director of the Shared Value Initiative, and Valerie Bockstette, co-author of the September 2013 Harvard Business Review article, “Innovating for Shared Value”
  • Insights from corporate leaders who have successfully created shared value at top global companies via presentations, case studies and interactive exercises
  • An opportunity for participants to deepen their own shared value initiative strategy for implementation at their company
  • An evaluation for each participant on the state of shared value at the enterprise level and examples of how companies are transforming themselves into shared value companies

According to Gary Cohen, executive vice president of Becton Dickinson, who attended the course along with senior business unit leaders, “This shared value executive training course engaged BD’s senior leadership in defining a path for innovation and growth by addressing the world’s unmet health needs.”

The 2.5-day program is designed for mid-to-senior-level corporate executives drawn from a variety of industries. The workshop-style curriculum includes lectures, case studies, videos, interactive exercises, and tailored case work—all designed to promote peer interaction and learning. A special rate is available for participants who register prior to September 25, 2013.
