Global Impact Examines International Giving Trends, Releases 2012 Environmental Assessment

Global Impact, whose mission is to assure help for the world’s most vulnerable people, released its 2012 Environmental Assessment. The study examines the current philanthropic landscape and underlying market conditions that affect domestic and international giving trends.

“As part of this research, we specifically focused on the role of technology in fundraising in general and employee giving specifically,” said Renée S. Acosta, President of Global Impact.“Due to the ease of transaction, security and continuity of donations for both donor and recipient, this trend of paperless giving is observed in many sectors and we believe it will continue.”

The 2012 Environmental Assessment aggregates data collected from a variety of domestic and international giving studies, including Giving USA Foundation and The Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy, as well as Global Impact’s broad experience both as a campaign administrator and a fundraiser for U.S.-based international charities.

As part of the assessment, Global Impact conducted an in-depth study on the developments in corporate philanthropy. Key findings from this research include:
  • Corporations continue to align their charitable giving with corporate business goals. Many focus on geographic areas where they have substantial operations and business opportunities, with a special focus on Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS countries).
  • Corporate investment in strategic philanthropy takes a variety of forms, including business development, Corporate Social Responsibility, employee engagement and partnerships with international organizations.
  • Corporations strive for greater giving choices for their employee engagement programs consistent with employee diversity and varied giving interests.
  • Corporate demands for philanthropic technology are more complex than in years past. Multi-national corporations increasingly look for an enterprise and global-level technology platforms as markets, revenues, suppliers and labor continue to shift outside of North America.
