SAN FRANCISCO, May 22 /CSRwire/ - As the first event organizer in North America to achieve conformity to the ISO 20121 Standard, environmental consulting firm Three Squares Inc. will deploy a comprehensive event sustainability management system for this year’s Sustainable Brands® Conference taking place June 3-6, 2013 in San Diego, California.
The Sustainable Brands® Conference has emerged as the leading professional event focused on highlighting corporate sustainability efforts and often features new product launches, press announcements and presentations by companies like Coca-Cola, Unilever, and Johnson & Johnson who wish to showcase their environmental efforts. Marking the inaugural year for ISO 20121 conformity, the 2013 Sustainable Brands® Conference is well positioned to serve as an impactful advocate for environmentally responsible event planning.

ISO 20121 was released in 2012 as an internationally recognized sustainable event management standard requiring event organizers to identify and understand the effects that their activities have on the environment, society and the economy and assures that they have a system in place for optimal sustainability performance outcomes. To date, only a handful of events worldwide have achieved compliance with the standard. “As the premier venue for global brands to showcase their commitment to sustainable business practices, the ISO 20121 certification allows the Sustainable Brands® Conference to lead by example and close the loop in responsible environmental stewardship. In order to earn ISO 20121 compliance, Three Squares Inc. will work closely with the event planning team, conference venue, and event suppliers to ensure that materials sourced for the event are held to the highest environmental standard and documentation is gathered for upload to the online certification system. The online Sustainable Event Management System (SEMS) Tool will be used to measure event compliance with the standard and audit the event activities on site. SEMS was designed to allow event planners to capture all aspects of the event planning process in an online platform and upload proof of ISO 20121 compliance in order to facilitate the auditing and certification process.
