This Mother’s Day, send the gift of cash with Western Union® and help support the gift of education in Mexico.  For every qualifying Western Union Money Transfer® transaction from the United States to Mexico from April 22 to June 10, 2013, the company will make a donation to Enseña por México (Teach for Mexico), with the goal of a $50,000 total contribution that will fund training programs for as many as 50 new Ensena por Mexico corps members in 50 days.

The contribution is part of the Western Union Education for Better initiative, a three-year commitment to grow young minds and help meet global education goals.

“At Western Union, we believe that education is the perfect gift for every community,” said Talya Bosch, vice president, social ventures, Western Union.  “This Mother’s Day, join Western Union as we work with Enseña por México to help create an even brighter future for Mexico’s young people.  By sending money to Mexico with Western Union, consumers are not only giving a gift to their loved ones, they are giving a gift that gives to others.”

“Education is the best path to financial opportunity for the youth of Mexico,” said Erik Ramirez, CEO of Enseña por México.  “Our programs address the need to get new leaders as teachers into the classroom, with a focus on improving academic performance and English as a second language for students in secondary and upper secondary schools.  Western Union’s donation will help Enseña por México deliver high-quality training to as many as 50 corps members who will lead for two years inside the classrooms. We are honored to be a part of Western Union’s commitment to providing skills and opportunity for all of Mexico’s young people.”

During the 50-day period, the company will donate $0.10 to Enseña por México for every qualifying consumer-to-consumer Western Union Money Transfer transaction sent from participating Agent locations or www.westernunion.com, up to $1,000 each day, and a maximum $50,000 donation.

Western Union also continues to offer value pricing for money transfers originating from the United States.  Consumers in the U.S. can send up to $1,000 to Mexico, the Dominican Republic and most of Central and South America1 for a fee of $82 from participating Western Union® Agent locations, or online at www.westernunion.com.

“Western Union has a global brand known for trust, reliability, speed and convenience, and we continue to enhance our consumer value proposition across key markets,” said Laston Charriez, senior vice president of marketing, Americas, Western Union. “By offering competitive pricing and the convenience of a multi-channel shopping experience, Western Union meets the needs of its consumers, enabling them to send money around the corner or around the world in a matter of minutes.”

Over the last century, Western Union has remained committed to the Mexico market, providing dependable financial services. About Enseña por México

Enseña por México is dedicated to the vision that one day, all children will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education. The organization was created in response to educational disadvantage within Mexico, wherein students are denied the education they need to access expanded life opportunities. To combat this, Enseña por México is adapting the model pioneered by Teach For America of channeling a force of leaders towards addressing educational inequity in their country’s context. This proven model enlists a nation’s most promising future leaders to commit two years to teach in high-need areas, providing a critical source of highly effective teachers who can lead students in substantial academic and personal achievement, and demonstrate that students in challenging circumstances are capable of succeeding at high levels. Over time, alumni of the program catalyze long-term impact as they become leaders in the classroom, in education more broadly, and across all sectors to create the conditions necessary for systemic educational change.  For more information, please visit www.ensenapormexico.org
