Andersen Corporation announced today the publication of its Corporate Sustainability Report (CSR) for 2012. Available online here, and in print by request, this report provides an update on long-term initiatives and continued innovation that drives the company’s environmental stewardship.

“The CSR is a snapshot of our company’s progress, as well as a measure of accountability to motivate us to continue to do more each year,” said Jim Weglewski, director of corporate quality and sustainability at Andersen. “The programs we launched, as well as ones we were privileged to support, all point to a model of shared success: between Andersen, our employees, and the community at-large.”

Achievements detailed in the report include:

  • Converting trucking fleet to use of compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel – Andersen began converting its fleet from diesel-fuel to compressed natural gas in early 2012. Natural gas vehicles show an average reduction in ozone-forming emissions of 80 percent compared to diesel, and the fuel is readily available domestically.
  • Helping Yellowstone go off-grid – Yellowstone National Park is working to create a model for off-grid environmental stewardship. Andersen donated energy-efficient 400 Series windows for the renovation of 16 residential cabins in the park. The cabins have shown an average fuel usage reduction of 50 percent per month from the same time last year.
  • Supporting Eco Village development – In River Falls, Wisconsin, Habitat for Humanity is building 18 homes and a community center on five acres of land that will share renewable energy systems (solar and geothermal) walkways, community produce gardens, “edible landscapes,” and shared green spaces. Andersen donated $100,000, windows and volunteer labor for the homes to assist the group in reaching LEED for Homes® Platinum and LEED-ND gold.
  • Hurricane Sandy relief – Following Hurricane Sandy, one of Andersen's New Jersey facilities played host to the New Jersey Red Cross® Command Center rent-free. Andersen also pulled diesel from its storage tanks to keep the Red Cross operational. In addition, Andersen donated $75,000 to the Red Cross and $15,000 to Elijah’s Promise, a food shelf in nearby North Brunswick.

“Our reputation starts with quality products, but grows with our demonstrated responsibility to the world we share,” said Weglewski. “Our success is defined by more than just financial health – how we contribute to the greater good is a strong indicator of our company’s health and well-being.”

Andersen’s CSR includes a summary of the company’s philanthropic efforts, such as its’ partnership with Habitat for Humanity, donating energy efficient windows, sponsoring homes and encouraging employee volunteer support. And, recognizing the impact a healthy, engaged workforce can have in helping the company meet future sustainability goals, the report also features information on key employee programs that contribute to the company’s overall health.
