GE's Citizenship Advisory Panel Provides Perspectives on Sustainability Challenges

Published 03-28-13

Submitted by General Electric Company

The GE Citizenship Advisory Panel supports, challenges and advises GE (NYSE: GE) on its approach to sustainability, and engages with the Corporate Citizenship team and with business and functional leaders to support the company in understanding social, environmental and economic issues.

Over the past three months, GE has published a series of perspectives from the panel on the Company’s Thoughts from Stakeholders blog. Each perspective reflects on a different key challenge for sustainable development, and together, they provide a roadmap for good corporate citizenship in 2013.

The blogs address topics related to GE’s Citizenship framework of People, Planet and Economy, and propose forward-thinking recommendations for the immediate future and the long term.

The panelists and their recent blogs:

ISABEL HILTON, journalist, broadcaster and CEO and founder of China Dialogue, comments on transparency in corporate tax affairs.

JANE NELSON, director of the Harvard Kennedy School’s CSR Initiative and a senior fellow at the school’s Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business & Government, discusses the potential of radical collaboration through technology.

NICK ROBINS, who leads the Climate Change Centre of Excellence at HSBC in London, comments on the gap between climate change risk and ambition.

THERO SETILOANE, CEO of Business Leadership South Africa, discusses the business of social cohesion.

SALIL TRIPATHI, policy director of the Institute for Human Rights and Business, comments on the challenge of integrating human rights into business due diligence.

DAWN RITTENHOUSE, director of sustainable development at DuPont, discusses the challenge of integrating sustainability into the product-innovation cycle.

GE understands that ongoing engagement with its stakeholders is critical, and the perspective of the GE Citizenship Advisory Panel is invaluable in furthering GE’s commitment to finding sustainable solutions to benefit the planet, its people and the economy.
