BOSTON, Dec. 13 /CSRwire/ - BICEP (Business for Innovative Climate & Energy Policy) today announced that CA Technologies has joined the BICEP coalition to advocate for innovative climate and clean energy policies.
Recently named the fifth greenest company in America by Newsweek, CA Technologies is an IT management software and solutions company specializing in mainframe, virtualization, security and cloud services. By joining BICEP, CA Technologies has committed to expanding its corporate sustainability efforts by working with businesses and policymakers to enact meaningful energy and climate policies.
“BICEP has been a powerful voice for clean energy progress in Washington and beyond,” said Bill McCracken, CEO of CA Technologies. “Sustainability is simply smart business. It has enabled us, and our customers, to realize positive, measurable results. We look forward to working with BICEP to help drive effective and necessary sustainability policy changes."
BICEP, a project of Ceres, launched in 2008 with a core group of five companies, including Starbucks, Nike and Levi Strauss. & Co. It has since expanded to include leading companies representing the personal products, sports and real estate sectors such as eBay, Inc., Symantec and Jones Lang LaSalle. BICEP members have been vocal proponents of renewable energy, greener transportation and stricter pollution controls on power plants.
“The IT sector plays a critical role in the 21st century economy, and CA Technologies has shown that it can be done sustainably – and at scale. We are proud to have them as the newest member of BICEP and are certain they will be an active voice for smart policies,” said Mindy Lubber, president of Ceres. “Corporate leaders like CA Technologies and their BICEP colleagues aren’t waiting for Washington to find sustainable solutions: Instead, they’re leading the way.”
CA Technologies has been collaborating with Ceres on sustainability initiatives since 2010. The company has set ambitious goals related to waste and energy use, as well as its supply chain and corporate governance. CA Technologies has committed to purchasing 25 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2015 and has reduced it carbon footprint by approximately 25 percent since 2006 through energy saving initiatives and real estate consolidation. The company has established a Sustainability Advisory Council for its Board of Governors and issued a questionnaire for key suppliers that establishes baseline reporting and encourages them to issue sustainability reports.
