PORTLAND, Dec. 07 /CSRwire/ - This year Maine, Maryland, and Washington State all voted to endorse marriage equality. To help celebrate this advance in equal rights, Better World Club, the nation’s only eco-friendly auto club, is offering newly-married couples all across the United States a free membership in their auto club.
Besides providing members with nationwide emergency roadside services, Better World Club has a history of pioneering socially-responsible and environmentally-friendly business practices. In 2008, BWC offered the same wedding present to celebrate same-sex marriage in California. BWC is the first auto club to recognize domestic partners – and gay marriages – nationally.
In the past, gay and lesbian couples had an unattractive choice to make when joining the roadside assistance clubs used by millions of Americans: either pretend they were heterosexual couples or pay for separate (and therefore more expensive) memberships. Better World Club president Mitch Rofsky says, "We quickly recognized the need for a better model. Our programs allow gay and lesbian couples to obtain peace of mind, use their actual names, and sign up for one membership at the reduced prices available to all.”
Couples married between December 1st and Valentine’s Day can fax or send Better World a copy of their marriage license. Better World Club will then waive its $12 sign-up fee and the Associate Membership fee of $25-35, depending on the program. The discounts in this 2-for-1 membership represent a gift of as much as $47.
The gift isn’t limited to same-sex couples. It applies to anyone getting married this winter, whether they’re located in one of the growing numbers of states that recognize marriage equality, or whether they’d just like to join Better World Club in celebrating the power of love.
And if they live in a state that only recognizes domestic partnerships (or doesn’t recognize same-sex partnerships at all), they can send the Better World Club a note to be included in the gift.
