LONDON, Nov. 23 /CSRwire/ - Winners were announced at a glittering but sustainable gala ceremony at the iconic Battersea Power Station from across the world including Australia, UK, Indonesia , New Zealand and the Republic of Korea amongst others. The Royal Society of Arts Accredited awards programme sponsored by Nissan this year was heralded another huge success with almost 400 guests and sustainability champions in attendance from Government, Business and NGO’s.

Battersea Power Station provided the ideal background for the UN theme, The International Year of Sustainable Energy for All. The 7th International Green Awards™ is the leading platform for sustainability intelligence, leadership and innovation. It’s success underlines how important sustainability and responsible business has become globally. Iain Patton Founder & CEO commented “Our international platform plays a crucial role in promoting the principles of environmental responsibility to a wider commercial audience. Awards have always been well placed to act as beacons of innovation and leadership as experts recognise organisations who are paving the way for a more sustainable future.”

The event which was hosted by acclaimed impressionist Alistair McGowan featured an impressive line-up of speakers including the Rt Hon Gregory Barker MP, Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change, DECC, Tony Juniper - Writer, Campaigner and Independent Sustainability Advisor, Lewis Pugh – Ocean Advocate & Pioneer Swimmer and Nick Nuttall – Spokesperson for the United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP, Kenya.

The highlight of the evening came with the announcement of the 3rd Lifetime Achievement Award which honoured HRH Prince Charles .  His Royal Highness, who was unable to attend due to his current tour of Australia, had pre-recorded a message from St James Palace in acceptance of his award. In this he commented “ If we are really going to meet the needs of 9 billion people by 2050 and keep nature’s capital intact we have to bring about a substantial transformation in the way we do things”. He also said “Your generous award this evening will give me the heart to continue the battle”  The Prince of Wales has been an environmental leader for over 40 years, working with businesses, charities, governments and other organisations to help promote sustainable ways of living and working. He has been at the forefront of a growing ecological movement promoting environmental awareness and his work has sought to meet a huge range of modern challenges. Previous recipients of this award have included Sir David Attenborough CBE.
