(Marketwire) - RONA inc. (TSX: RON)(TSX: RON.PR.A), the largest Canadian distributor and retailer of hardware, renovation and gardening products, would like to underline the recognition given to Normand Dumont, Vice President, Sustainable Development at Green Living's 2012 Excellence in Corporate Responsibility (ECR) Awards ceremony on November 7. Mr. Dumont won an individual award in the Retail, Packaged Goods, Consumer Brands category.

Normand Dumont's leadership in sustainable development has led to the implementation of a responsible procurement plan and a communications program to raise consumer awareness about eco products. The Corporation now offers the RONA ECO line of products which is evaluated on life-cycle methodology developed by CIRAIG (Interuniversity Research Centre for the Life Cycle of Products, Processes and Services). The program is having a positive and lasting impact on both suppliers and consumers, helping them to change their behaviours and move toward more responsible habits.

Normand Dumont was appointed in August 2012 as Vice President, Sustainable Development, an area in which RONA is increasingly recognized as a leader. In this role, he is responsible for developing a strategic plan in sustainable development and to assure its implementation.

The Excellence in Corporate Responsibility (ECR) Awards were developed to honour and celebrate corporate Canadians for outstanding work and dedication towards creating sustainable and ethical practices within the business framework. It recognizes professionals from small, medium and large corporations in various industries.
