A public voting period will close in one week for finalists for the first quarterly Green America “People & Planet” award recognizing America’s best green small businesses. Each of three winners will receive $5,000.

Voting for 10 finalists is open to the public online at http://www.greenamerica.org/green-business-people-and-planet-award/index.cfm until 5 p.m. EDT on September 4, 2012.

The new quarterly “People & Planet Awards” recognize innovative entrepreneurial U.S. businesses that deeply integrate environmental and social considerations into their strategies and operations. The first round of the Awards focuses on green businesses that also have a community action component. Public voting began on August 2, 2012 and will close at 5 p.m. EDT on September 4, 2012. After the votes are tallied, the first group of three quarterly winners will be announced during the week of September 17th.

The 10 final contenders for the first round of People & Planet Awards are: Coffee By Design, Portland, ME; Fiberactive Organics, Raleigh, NC; GladRags, Portland, OR; Green Kid Crafts, Anchorage, AK; Liveability Project, Kensington, MD; MiaDonna & Co., Portland, OR; Old City Green, Washington, DC; Raleigh City Farm, Raleigh, NC; Root-n-Roost Farm, Livingston Manor, NY; and Sonoma Compost Co., Sonoma, CA.

Future rounds of the quarterly small business awards from Green America will focus on clean energy, workplace innovations, and other sustainability practices.
