Yesterday, 19 Dermalogica distributor partners around the world participated in a Mandela Day challenge in tribute to Nelson Mandela and the 67 years he spent advocating for human rights.  To complete the challenge, 1,400 Dermalogica employees in 20 countries partook in 67 minutes of service to give back to their local communities in order to become change makers.

“Mandela Day is an opportunity to take responsibility for changing the world and making it a better place, one small step at a time, just as Mr. Mandela has,” said Jane Wurwand, founder of Dermalogica and joinFITE.  “Engaging our distributor partners worldwide in honor of Nelson Mandela is just one example of Dermalogica’s commitment to service. By acting as positive change makers, we are honoring that responsibility and paying it forward to others who can do the same.”

At Dermalogica’s headquarters near Los Angeles, 200 corporate employees filled backpacks with school supplies for more than 100 children in Boys and Girls Club of Carson’s summer camp program. The corporate office partnered with the service organization in order to make a difference in the surrounding community. By providing children with school supplies, Dermalogica has enabled local kids with the necessary tools to succeed in school, which prepares them for success after graduation as well.

“Seeing a local business, especially one that operates on a global scale, working to empower kids in their own community is inspiring,” said Kim Richards from Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson. “It is great for the kids to be engaged with companies like this as they are not only being helped in the moment, but they are being shown what their possibilities are locally for their future.”

Beyond headquarters, Dermalogica partners participated in 67 minutes of service in creative ways that centered on thinking globally, but giving back locally. From hosting an auction to benefit women entrepreneurs in Vietnam, to improving well-being with 67 minutes of yoga in Australia, to collecting clothes for domestic abuse victims and their children with Women Empowered in Sacramento, Dermalogica demonstrated its worldwide impact with each act of service performed.

Dermalogica furthered its global commitment to change on Mandela Day through its philanthropic platform, joinFITE, which encouraged individuals across the world to direct 670 microloans through Kiva.org. Founded in 2011 by Dermalogica and powered by Kiva, joinFITE has already helped fund more than 19,000 microloans for women in over 60 countries around the world.

The Dermalogica global distributor partners who participated include Australia, Bahamas, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg , Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and Vietnam.
