Silicon Valley Community Foundation and EF today announced that they will combine the corporate philanthropy services of both organizations to better serve companies that want to give back locally, regionally and around the world.

The boards of the two organizations approved a new structure in which EF will be integrated into the community foundation’s business services unit to provide existing and potential corporate clients with a full range of strategic guidance about corporate social responsibility, philanthropy and community involvement.

Together, the community foundation and EF work with more than 100 companies to implement, facilitate and guide corporate philanthropy programs, providing strategic advice about giving and CSR, events and resources.

“The community foundation and EF have a long history of working together and we are excited that we will be now be able to work together as one,” said Emmett D. Carson, Ph.D., CEO and president of the community foundation. “We think we can learn from each other and that together, we can help our corporate partners create even more impact for their employees and in the global communities they serve.”

Diane Solinger is resigning as executive director of EF after being at the organization for 13 years. Diane will be joining Google as the company’s new manager for employee social responsibility. In her new role, Solinger will be working with a team of Googlers to leverage the time, talent and skills of Google employees around the world for social impact.

“The merger of EF into Silicon Valley Community Foundation helps take EF’s vision to the next level,” said Solinger. “EF has always believed that any company, regardless of size or stage of maturity, should have the opportunity and means to positively impact the community. Through this merger companies will have a soup to nuts offering of strategic consulting services, funding mechanisms and leverage of a powerful network to increase their effectiveness as good corporate citizens.”

Under the terms of the agreement, EF will retain its nonprofit status and continue to provide services to all its existing corporate partners under the guidance of Silicon Valley Community Foundation. Current EF employees will become employees of the community foundation, joining the Business Services department, which reports to Mari Ellen Loijens, chief business, development and brand officer.

Both SVCF and EF have a long history of providing strategic guidance, consulting, resources and tactical services to support corporate philanthropy. Over the years, EF and the community foundation have worked with hundreds of companies on corporate social responsibility, matching gifts and other philanthropic initiatives.
