How to Network Your Way to a Sustainable Consulting Business - Nikki Pava, Co-Founder of EcoTuesday

No one knows the importance of corporate sustainability than someone who has worked with organizations that ignore their environmental and social responsibilities.

Nikki Pava worked in marketing and communications positions at several companies, leading her eventually to interview over 100 CEOs for some of the biggest corporations in the world in locations such as Bangkok, Berlin, and Dubai. During these interviews, Nikki would ask about issues and trends, and probe them about their social and environmental impacts, and found that business leaders didn’t want to talk about these subjects.

She realized that it was her mission to bridge the gap between business and the environment. Not long afterwards, she cofounded EcoTuesday, a structured green business networking business community that now thrives in over 6 cities in the US.

3 Ideas for Starting a Thriving Green Business Networking Event

Whether you are an established sustainable brand, brick and mortar green retailer, a home based green business consultant, or just thinking about starting a green business, according to Nikki, learning how to network online and offline is crucial to succeed. She introduced the structured networking format into EcoTuesday as a way of making it easier for business leaders to meet one another, share ideas, and collaborate on sustainability issues. I asked her for her top three tips for people looking to start their own green business networking events:

  • Help People Learn: It’s important to keep people interested. One way to do that is to ensure you’re always talking about new and interesting sustainability topics. People want to learn, so give them interesting topics to learn as much as they can.
  • Allow for Q&A: Give attendees the opportunity to ask questions of the speaker by building time into the event.
  • Provide an Introductory Time: Allow people to introduce themselves in a structured format to talk about what they do, and strategically pitch what they’re passionate about. This helps people meet people and get to know other businesses around them.

Growing a Green Business: Advice from a Corporate Executive

All her green business networking experience led Nikki to launch her current business Alegria Partners, a sustainability consulting firm that guides organizations in establishing triple bottom line principles in their business. So, if you’re looking for ways to make your business greener or want to help champion the green economy by becoming a consultant, be sure to tune into the upcoming interview with Nikki Pava as part of the Green Business Entrepreneurs Success Summit.
