(Marketwire) - Ecology and Environment, Inc. (E & E) (NASDAQ: EEI) is pleased to announce that Rebecca L. Flora, a pioneer in the green building and sustainable communities movements, has joined E & E as Sustainable Communities Practice Leader. Throughout her 30-year career, Flora has exhibited leadership and expertise across multiple areas of sustainability, including community development, urban redevelopment, Main Street revitalization, historic preservation, affordable housing, climate action planning, green building, and green job creation. She will bring a fresh perspective to E & E's sustainability practice and will expand the firm's ability to assist clients in meeting their sustainability goals.

Flora has earned a reputation nationally and globally through her work at Green Building Alliance (GBA) and in her role on the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) board of directors where she served as board chair in 2008 and later as USGBC's Senior Vice President of Education and Research. Flora was a founding member of the core committee that established the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Neighborhood Development rating system, a role directly related to her long standing interests and expertise in sustainable communities. She has also worked to educate others in the field of sustainability through ten years as an adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz College and currently as a member of the USGBC® Faculty™.

"I find E & E to be unique in its ability to analyze and develop strategic solutions from an economic, social, and environmental perspective for a range of topics both individually and comprehensively," noted Flora. "I am impressed by the depth and scope of the scientific and professional staff at E & E and by the way they work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, which match the core requirements necessary to create sustainable places and societies."

"Rebecca's established leadership and expertise in sustainability, her LEED credentials, and her creative energy align well with the direction E & E's sustainability practice is headed and we're glad to have her on board," said E & E president and CEO Kevin Neumaier. "All of our projects incorporate principles of sustainability to some degree," noted Gerard A. Gallagher, III, E & E Senior Vice President of Environmental Sustainability. "What we're seeing now are large-scale, complex projects where sustainability drives every aspect of planning and implementation. Rebecca is uniquely qualified to lead those efforts."

Headquartered in Lancaster, N.Y., E & E has completed more than 50,000 projects for a wide variety of clients in 113 countries, providing environmental solutions in nearly every ecosystem on the planet.
