The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW) announces its participation in the 4th annual World Economic and Environmental Conference (WEC 2011) in Qingdao, which is jointly hosted by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the International Energy Conservation Environmental Protection Association (IEEPA). The company is addressing its commitment to "solving world challenges through sustainable chemistry," and showcasing its innovative solutions and collaborations during the three-day event.

Dow was also presented the "Carbon-Value Innovative Value Award" during the opening ceremony for its unique and rewarding research and exploration of low-carbon solutions.

"As a responsible leader of the global chemical industry, Dow is committed to pursuing scientific advancement and partnerships to help solve the world's most critical challenges, creating a more sustainable world for future generations," said Neil Hawkins, Vice President of Sustainability and Environment, Health and Safety, Dow Chemical, during his keynote speech at WEC 2011. "Dow innovation is aimed at minimizing our own footprint and delivering solutions that help our customers and society do the same. WEC 2011 provides a powerful platform to discuss how chemistry can contribute to humanity's well-being in the most sustainable manner."

At WEC 2011, Dow is presenting some of its technologies and solutions under the theme "Science for a Sustainable World," highlighting how sustainable chemistry addresses global challenges like energy, climate change, water, housing, food, and health. For example, the Dow AIRSTONE™ Systems is a set of proven epoxy technologies that enables the production of stronger and lighter wind blades. Dow FormaShield™ technology empowers functional paint that helps to improve indoor air quality by trapping formaldehyde particles.

Dow business executives, including Karen Carter, General Manager of Dow Building & Construction, Asia Pacific, and Wang Xiaolan, Commercial Director of Dow Water Process & Solutions, Asia Pacific, actively participated in forum discussions on green building, water resources, and new energy.

Dow also hosted a reception under the theme "Investing in Nature" to celebrate locally its breakthrough collaboration with The Nature Conservancy. Approximately 100 stakeholders attended. The Nature Conservancy is a global conservation organization that works to preserve lands and waters with ecological importance to people and nature. In January this year, Dow and The Nature Conservancy embarked on a five-year collaboration to help Dow and other companies properly value and incorporate nature into their long-range goals, strategies, and operations.
