Who: The Dow Chemical Company (Dow) and TRANSCAER, a national organization comprised of chemical and transportation companies and associations committed to the safe and secure transportation of chemical materials. TRANSCAER is an acronym for Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response.
What: As part of Dow's commitment to chemical safety and security, the company once again rolls out its "Chemical Safety Train," outfitted with a custom classroom and training center. Dow has provided free chemical transportation training to more than 2,600 emergency responders across the country, including local fire-fighters and hazardous materials (hazmat) specialists.
Media are invited to the event to get a first-hand look into how Dow helps advance emergency response capabilities through the TRANSCAER program. As part of the training, local emergency personnel will participate in simulated activities and classroom seminars focused on railroad equipment training, hazardous material training and advanced training with interactive emergency drills.

Why: Emergency responders need to be aware of the chemicals that travel through their communities and how to respond in the unlikely event of an incident. Responders who register for the city-specific training will participate in a variety of classroom and simulated activities with five distinct modules, focused on railroad equipment training, hazardous material training and advanced training with interactive emergency response drills.
The 2011 tour is part of a long-term commitment by Dow and Union Pacific Railroad to provide improved community awareness and emergency response preparedness along their shared chemical transportation routes, in coordination with national, regional and state TRANSCAER programs. The TRANSCAER tour also includes co-hosted routes with Canadian National, Norfolk Southern and Conrail. For the fourth consecutive year, Dow was honored with the 2010 National TRANSCAER Achievement Award for its commitment to health and safety.
