In response to the devastation caused by the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan earlier this month, Global Impact established the Japan Relief Fund to address critical humanitarian needs in Japan's hardest hit regions.

Contributions to this fund will support the rescue, relief and rebuilding efforts of Global Impact's respected and carefully vetted alliance of U.S.-based international charities. Donations will provide people and communities in need with clean drinking water, food supplies, necessary medical attention and safe shelter. Multiple corporations partnered with Global Impact to support the Japan Relief Fund through employee giving.

"Major disasters, such as this, require short-term disaster relief and long-term international support to fuel the recovery efforts," stated Renée S. Acosta, President & CEO, Global Impact. "We are deeply thankful to our corporate partners and their employees who will assure help for Japan’s most vulnerable people."

Highlights of key partner activities:

UnitedHealth Group will match employee donations made to the fund. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the people who suffered such tragic losses of life and property in this disaster. We recognize Global Impact as an organization that can make an immediate, positive impact in Japan, and our employees want to support it as it works with the most respected charities in Japan to assist in relief efforts," said Kate Rubin, UnitedHealth Group's vice president of social responsibility.

Ashland Inc. will match up to $25,000 of employee donations made to Japan relief efforts. "Ashland has historically supported relief efforts when communities are affected by natural disasters, such as the earthquake and tsunami in Japan," said Deborah George, contributions program manager at Ashland Inc. "Partnering with Global Impact allows us to respond to our employees’ diverse giving interests and aligns with the global nature of our business."

Grand Rapids Foam Technologies will match all employee donations raised through payroll deductions, regardless of the dollar amount. "Our thoughts are with the people of Japan, and partnering with Global Impact provides an effective way to deliver much needed help to those affected by this disaster," said Tasha Wright, director of human resources at Grand Rapids Foam Technologies.
