U.S. Chamber BCLC to Host Focus Forums Examining Effects of Emerging Technologies on CSR

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC) is partnering with the Center for Policy on Emerging Technologies (C-Pet) to examine the possible effects of nanotechnology, biotechnology, and virtual technology on corporate social responsibility (CSR). Through a number of focus forums, the 'Emerging Technology and the Future of CSR' series will convene leading futurists, scientific writers, chief R&D officers, and leading CSR experts to discuss how these technologies might change the business, environmental, and political landscapes.
The first forum entitled, "Ethical Concerns in Biotechnology and Health Care Advances," will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011 at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C. BCLC and C-Pet will discuss the ethical, social, workforce, and environmental implications of how biotech firms are contributing to social and health care advances. The forum will examine how to maximize the positive potential of biotechnology while minimizing dangerous possibilities.
"Biotechnology is clearly at the cutting edge of many incredible advances that contribute to society," said BCLC Executive Director, Stephen Jordan. "This forum is a way for us to understand what the possibilities are and any pitfalls along the way."
As part of the partnership, C-Pet President and CEO, Nigel Cameron, will be an expert contributor for BCLC's blog and editorial publications.
"The vast, disruptive impacts of emerging technologies have only just begun to be felt. Even the 'digital revolution' is in its early stages," says Cameron. "Corporations seeking markets have a huge interest in aligning themselves with the common good. And that will be more true and more clear with every passing day."
BCLC is a 501(c)3 affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and is a resource and voice for businesses and their social and philanthropic interests.
The Center for Policy on Emerging Technologies (C-PET) is the first broad-based, free-standing think tank on science and technology policy in Washington, D.C.
