/PRNewswire/ - Tonight, Zipcar Chairman and CEO, Scott Griffith, was selected by Corporate Responsibility Magazine as winner of the "Social Entrepreneur" category during the publication's "Responsible CEO of the Year Awards." The Awards ceremony took place at 6:00 p.m. CT at the Union League Club of Chicago.

"Since 2008, the CR Magazine Responsible CEO of the Year Awards have set the standard for leaders who are both setting tone at the top and taking personal reputational risks to better serve stakeholders. Scott Griffith, Chairman and CEO of Zipcar, represents the best of responsible corporate leadership in the "Social Entrepreneur" category as determined by the editorial team at CR Magazine, home of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens List," said Jay Whitehead, CR Magazine publisher and founder.

"I am humbled by this recognition from CR Magazine. The success of the Zipcar brand clearly demonstrates how a business can 'do well by doing good.' Our definition of sustainability is 'the most efficient use of resources.' Since each Zipcar removes 15 personally owned vehicles from the road, we help reduce congestion, ease parking demands and lower a community's overall carbon footprint. I am proud to lead a company that is by definition sustainable," said Scott Griffith, Chairman and CEO of Zipcar. "I am honored to accept this award on behalf of our 500,000 passionate members who we call Zipsters. Zipsters share our vision of a future where car sharing members outnumber car owners in major cities around the globe."

About Scott Griffith

Since becoming CEO at Zipcar in February of 2003, Scott steered the company to first place as the world's largest car-sharing service. In the fall of 2007, Scott led Zipcar's merger with Flexcar, managing the integration of the company fleets, technology and membership base under the Zipcar brand and service. More recently, Scott navigated the successful acquisition of London-based Streetcar, the UK's fastest growing car club, in an effort to expand the benefits of car-sharing throughout the UK and globally.

With a commitment to innovation, Scott has solidified Zipcar's position as the clear leader in the car-sharing industry, establishing a brand and customer experience that has attracted more than 400,000 savvy urban residents, businesses and university students. By forging partnerships with several top global brands and the world's largest automakers, and by developing relationships with transit agencies, universities and influential city and state governments, Scott has fostered the emergence of car-sharing as a new transportation category, changing urban life by providing instant, affordable mobility in 14 major metropolitan areas and at more than 220 college campuses in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Prior to Zipcar, Scott held senior level positions at The Boeing Company, Information America, an Atlanta-based provider of online public record information, and The Parthenon Group, a boutique business strategy and investment firm. Scott earned his BS in engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
