AmeriCares Receives Unprecedented Donation From OdysseyRe

$1.8 million commitment to support medical assistance around the world and across the U.S.

STAMFORD, Conn., Oct. 27 /CSRwire/ - /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ - AmeriCares has received its largest corporate donation ever with a $1.8 million commitment from OdysseyRe, a Stamford, Connecticut-based company. OdysseyRe, a leading worldwide underwriter of property and casualty reinsurance, as well as specialty insurance, has provided significant support for AmeriCares programming initiatives, including a $1 million donation to help AmeriCares Free Clinics serve the uninsured in Fairfield County, CT.

The $1.8 million grant is comprehensive and will enable AmeriCares to deliver donated medicines, medical supplies and humanitarian aid through its ongoing programs, including:

  • $700,000 to support AmeriCares responses to emergencies and natural disasters around the world, including $100,000 to purchase and preposition emergency medical supplies ready for immediate deployment in the wake of a catastrophe;

  • $600,000 for AmeriCares Domestic Medical Assistance Program, which supports health clinics across the United States serving the uninsured and underinsured;

  • $300,000 for AmeriCares India, a program that provides critical aid during emergencies and responds to ongoing medical needs in India, Asia and Africa;

  • $200,000 for AmeriCares Medical Outreach Program, which supports U.S.-based health care professionals who provide volunteer medical care and surgeries.
