SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Oct. 20 /CSRwire/ - Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today that it has received a 2010 Green Power Leadership Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The annual awards recognize the country's leading green power purchasers for their commitment and contribution to helping advance the development of the nation's voluntary green power market. EPA presented Motorola with the award at an event last night held in conjunction with the 2010 Renewable Energy Markets Conference in Portland, Ore.

• Motorola was one of only four organizations nationwide to be chosen as a Green Power Partner of the Year.


• The award recognizes EPA Green Power Partners that distinguish themselves through their purchase, leadership, overall strategy and impact on the green power market.


• Motorola is currently purchasing 119 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually, which is enough green power to meet more than 30 percent of the company's purchased electricity use in the U.S.


• Motorola is buying renewable energy certificates (RECs) from Native Energy.


• Motorola currently ranks No. 31 on EPA's National Top 50 list, which highlights EPA Green Power Partners completing the largest annual voluntary purchases through July 6, 2010.


• According to the EPA, Motorola's current green power purchase of 119 million kWh is equivalent to avoiding the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of more than 16,000 passenger vehicles per year, or is the equivalent amount of electricity needed to power more than 10,000 average American homes annually.
