NATICK, Mass., Sep. 27 /CSRwire/ - With October marking National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, BJ's Wholesale Club and its Vendor Partners and Members have once again joined forces to raise funds for National Cancer Institute® (NCI)-designated Cancer Centers along the East Coast. Funds will support efforts to provide breast cancer early detection and screening, diagnosis, research and treatment.

"Together BJ's Wholesale Club, our Vendors and Members have proudly contributed $1.3 million since 2005 to help fight this disease," said Jessica Newman, manager of community relations for BJ's Wholesale Club. "Each of the last four years, all of us at BJ's have looked forward to supporting local NCI-designated Cancer Centers and the individuals and families affected by breast cancer."

As in years past, funds will be raised through specially marked "Pink Ribbon" merchandise sold at BJ's in its 15-state footprint. Every product with the BJ's Charitable Foundation® Pink Ribbon Logo will generate donations to be divided among the following 13 NCI-designated Cancer Centers:

    1. Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center at Hillcrest Hospital (OH)
    2. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (MA)
    3. Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center (NH)
    4. Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center (NC)
    5. Georgetown University Hospital's Betty Lou Ourisman Breast Health Center (DC)
    6. H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute (FL)
    7. Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center (MD)
    8. Roswell Park Cancer Institute (NY)
    9. The Cancer Institute of New Jersey (NJ)
    10. Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals (PA)
    11. VCU Massey Cancer Center (VA)
    12. Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University (GA)
    13. Yale Cancer Center (CT)

BJ's will host "Pink Picnic" events partnering with each NCI-designated Cancer Center. The "Pink Picnic" events are free and open to the public. Each event features a local breast cancer survivor who will share personal experiences with the disease and a doctor or researcher to discuss cutting-edge information about breast cancer screening, treatments and research. BJ's will also unveil the "Pink Ribbon" products to be sold throughout the month of October.

"Our 'Pink Picnic' events have been a favorite among our Members. We create a meaningful connection between local residents and area NCI-designated Cancer Centers," said Newman. "When the attendees leave these events, they do so with a greater understanding of the remarkable work being done by their local NCI-designated Cancer Centers."

Select "Pink Picnics" will also host Procter & Gamble's® (P&G) Look Good. Feel Good. experiences to give survivors and guests the opportunity to sample a selection of "Pink Ribbon" products. Guests can participate in a consultation with a P&G Beauty Expert covering skin care, hair care and oral care. The experience will give Members, breast cancer patients and survivors the opportunity to focus on feeling well both on the inside and outside. The Beauty Expert will provide product recommendations, helpful tips, samples and coupons.
