An Evening With Dr. Gunter Pauli

Ode Magazine presents the launch of the Ode Salon Series with an evening with Dr. Gunter Paul, author of the book, The Blue Economy: 10 Years, 100 Innovations, 100 Million Jobs, with special guest: Fritjof Capra, author of The Tao of Physics and The Science of Leonardo. The event will take place at the Fort Mason Center.

Dr. Gunter Pauli will speak about the world beyond green and sustainability: The Blue Economy. He will explain how a new generation of entrepreneurs can bring innovations to the marketplace, secure the basic needs of all, and make sustainable businesses competitive.

Special guest Fritjof Capra will comment on Dr. Pauli's findings. Capra is a founding director of the Center for Ecoliteracy in Berkeley, California, which promotes ecology and systems thinking in primary and secondary education. Jurriaan Kamp, Ode's editor-in-chief, will moderate the discussion and take questions from the audience on this compelling and timely subject.

Gunter Pauli's entrepreneurial activities span business, culture, science, politics and the environment. Under his leadership, a small European company pioneered the first ecological factory, the construction of which was completed in 1993. He also founded and directs the "Zero Emissions Research Initiative" of the United Nations University in Tokyo, redesigning manufacturing processes into non-polluting clusters of industries. Among his long-term ambitions, Gunter Pauli wishes "to contribute to sustainable social, economic and humane development worldwide, in which entrepreneurship plays a critical role not only for business, but also at a cultural, social, political and ethical level."

Gunter Pauli's article, "Building the Blue Economy," appeared in the special Copenhagen edition of Ode. The special issue focuses on the challenge of climate change and humanity's opportunity to build a better world. Gunter Pauli's article presents the idea of creating companies with zero waste. He shows us how to innovate and generate wealth, and how to create jobs by looking toward the ecosystem.
