University of Phoenix and HandsOn Network Recognize Monica Orluk as a University of Phoenix(TM) Volunteer Leader Award Honoree

ATLANTA, Apr. 20 /CSRwire/ - Monica Orluk, of Elizabeth, PA has been named a University of Phoenix Volunteer Leader Award Honoree, an award given by HandsOn Network and the University of Phoenix to 10 outstanding volunteer leaders in the nation. These leaders motivate others and are catalysts for change in their communities.

The award celebrates the first anniversary of the landmark Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, which authorized the largest expansion of national service in America in decades. Orluk will receive $10,000 to donate to the nonprofit organization of her choice.

Monica Orluk is dedicated to serving those who serve our country. As the Vice-President of Operation Troop Appreciation (OTA), she leads thousands in showing appreciation to the dedicated members of the United States Armed Forces serving and sacrificing overseas.

Over the last six years, she has worked tirelessly to improve safety and morale for active duty troops and improved peace of mind for the worried families of those deployed. In that time, OTA has provided "wish list" and needed items to more than 60,000 troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Without Orluk's leadership, compassion and dedication, OTA would not be a national organization, improving the well-being of thousands of soldiers.

As the needs of troops evolve and more soldiers return home, Orluk has reached out to serve veterans. In addition to volunteering with OTA, she is working with the Veteran's Leadership Project in Pittsburgh. That organization is dedicated to meeting the financial, housing, job and education needs of returning veterans.

Orluk believes 100 percent in her mission to support troops. In addition to working fulltime and studying for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management, she often volunteers 40 hours a week. When asked why she serves, Orluk responds, "When you are blessed in life as I am, the best way to be thankful is to give to others." As a 2010 University of Phoenix Volunteer Leader Award honoree, she backs up her words every day with her acts of service.
