WASHINGTON, D.C., Apr. 20 /CSRwire/ -
For a number of Americans, cleaning the house is about more than just have a tidy home. It's helping to keep their homes clean when their immune systems are under attack.
The Cleaning for a Reason Foundation (www.cleaningforareason.org) offers professional housecleaning services once a month for four months to women undergoing treatment for cancer - at no cost. Nationwide, partners and patients are recognizing these efforts through National Cleaning for a Reason Week (April 18-24, 2010).
Members of The Soap and Detergent Association (SDA - www.cleaning101.com) are offering their financial and logistical support to the Foundation. SDA members raised more than $10,000 at the association's first-ever Cleaning for a Reason Charity Golf Tournament, held at SDA's 2010 Industry Convention in Orlando, Florida.
"Through the work of the Foundation, cancer patients are receiving a true gift of significance - a clean home when they really need it," said Nancy Bock, SDA Vice President of Education. "You can't put a price on the importance of sustaining a clean home during times of treatment. That is why SDA is involved and why we encourage individuals and families to learn more about the Foundation."
The Foundation has granted more than $500,000 in free cleanings, helping over 3,500 women. More than 667 residential cleaning services from 50 different states volunteer their time to help women clean their homes.
If you employ a residential cleaning service to take care of your home, encourage them to become a Cleaning for a Reason partner today. Right now, Cleaning for a Reason receives more patient requests than are possible to fulfill. With more partners, more patients will be served.

The Soap and Detergent Association (SDA - www.cleaning101.com), the Home of the U.S. Cleaning Products Industry®, represents the $30 billion U.S. cleaning products market. SDA members include the formulators of soaps, detergents, and general cleaning products used in household, commercial, industrial and institutional settings; companies that supply ingredients and finished packaging for these products; and oleochemical producers. SDA and its members are dedicated to improving health and the quality of life through sustainable cleaning products and practices.
