CINCINNATI, Apr. 15 /CSRwire/ - To further bolster its long-term corporate commitment to sustainability, the Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) today announced the composition of its U.S. Sustainability Expert Advisory Panel (SEAP). The panel's mission is to help further embed "sustainable thinking" into P&G U.S. business practices by evaluating specific initiatives, collaborating with P&G brand representatives and exploring opportunities to facilitate transparency with customers, consumers, and key stakeholder groups.
Among other programs, the U.S. panel has consulted extensively on the recently announced launch of Future Friendly, P&G's multi-brand conservation education platform aimed at helping consumers save energy, conserve water, and reduce waste.
"As a member of SEAP, I value the ability to contribute to strategies and practices that make a difference in the company's ongoing sustainability efforts," said Kathleen McGinty, Former Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality. "I respect P&G's openness in reaching outside the organization to improve its U.S. operations and the environment in measurable and meaningful ways."
U.S. SEAP participants include:
"Sustainable business is more critical than ever, and I'm thrilled to see P&G affirming its commitment to sustainability through partnerships that can affect positive change," said Kim Thompson, President of Kid Risk, Inc. and Adjunct Associate Professor at the Harvard School of Public Health. "P&G's collaborative approach substantially enhances its ability to work with its U.S. consumers in making meaningful contributions to improve our environment."
The U.S. SEAP met twice in 2009 at P&G headquarters. It will continue meeting throughout the year to provide counsel to individual business units and brands within the company in order to share expertise on sustainability-related issues and evaluate upcoming consumer-facing initiatives.
"We are pleased to work with each panelist to gain constructive feedback on our current and future U.S. efforts," said Rick Hackman, Associate Director, Technical External Relations, P&G. "Though we're excited about our progress, we know we must continue to work hard to realize our full potential as a sustainability leader, and we're thrilled to engage and listen to outside partners in order to create the biggest impacts."
Today's announcement is the latest milestone in P&G's environmental and social sustainability efforts, which to date include:
In recognition of P&G's long-term and continued commitment to sustainability and its real achievements, the FTSE4Good and Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) included P&G since their inception, and the Financial Times and Just Means honored P&G with the 2008/2009 Social Innovation Award. Corporate Knight also ranked P&G in the top 15 of its 2010 "Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World" list. Sustainability is part of P&G's Purpose to touch and improve the lives of the worlds' consumers, now and for generations to come.
