The Company Debuts in Number Five Spot on Harris Interactive's Annual Survey

SC Johnson was named one of the top 10 most respected companies in America, according to the annual 2009 Harris Interactive Reputation Quotient (RQ) Study, which measures the reputation of the 60 most visible companies in the U.S. and how consumers feel about those companies. The company debuted in the number five spot on the list.

The survey found that for the first time in four years, there was a 50 percent increase in the number of Americans who said that the state of reputation for big business is "good," moving from 12 to 18 percent. Six companies in the Top 10, including SC Johnson, received an RQ score over 80, which is considered to be an "Excellent" reputation.

Respondents were first asked to identify the 60 most visible companies and then surveyed to rate those companies based on their reputation on 20 different attributes. The attributes are then grouped into six different reputation dimensions that influence reputation and consumer behavior. SC Johnson ranked highest in the Social Responsibility, Emotional Appeal and Products & Services categories.

This specific recognition may be due, in large part, to the company's family legacy. The company was founded in 1886 by Samuel Curtis Johnson and is led today by Fisk Johnson, the fifth generation Johnson to lead the company. The company's long-standing values include integrity, innovation and community. A series of new ads share the company's family history, what it means to be a family company and its efforts to do what's right for families around the world.

SC Johnson has long been recognized for its philanthropy, sustainability and being a great place to work. Most recently, SC Johnson was named to FORTUNE Magazine's "100 Best Places to Work" list, DiversityInc.'s "Top 50 Companies for Diversity®" list, Working Mother magazine's "100 Best Companies for Working Moms" list and AARP's "Best Employer For Workers Over 50" list. The company is also a founding member of Conservation International's Team Earth, working to address the most pressing environmental issues facing humanity.
