A key figure in the quest to prove that humans can create sustainable and prosperous cities will attend the GLOBE 2010 conference on the business of the environment, March 24 to 26 in Vancouver, B.C.

Frank Wouters, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar Energy will speak at the GLOBE 2010 Opening Plenary March 24 at GLOBE 2010, recounting how a start up venture in oil-rich Abu Dhabi plans to become a world player in renewable energy.

Masdar City will be the world's largest test bed for new technologies by setting sustainability targets not attempted by any other project.

"Masdar's participation at GLOBE 2010 presents an enormous opportunity for clean-tech companies from B.C., Canada and the rest of the world that are gathering for this year's conference," said John Wiebe, President and CEO of the GLOBE Foundation.

Joining Mr. Wouters at GLOBE 2010 will be Ryan Tompkins, Associate, Business Development, Masdar City. Mr. Tompkins will share some of the knowledge and implications for companies, investors, and other eco-city projects at a special session on the GLOBE Trade Fair floor at 3pm on March 25.

Masdar City will be the first 100 per cent carbon free, zero waste community in the world, with its first residents calling it home within months. Located near Abu Dhabi, Masdar City will house up to 50,000 people and rely solely on renewable energy sources and sustainable waste management systems.
