General Mills was named today to Corporate Responsibility magazine's list of the "100 Best Corporate Citizens" for 2010. General Mills ranks third in the magazine's 11th annual ranking.

"General Mills strives to be one of the most socially responsible consumer food companies in the world, and we’re proud to be named one of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens for 2010," said Ken Powell, chairman and CEO of General Mills. "Each step we take across our businesses, big or small, advances our mission of Nourishing Lives."

During this morning's press conference, Jay Whitehead, Corporate Responsibility magazine publisher said, "Company stakeholders from investors to customers to employees to regulators watch the 100 Best Corporate Citizens list closely, and are using it now more than ever to make important decisions," Whitehead said. "As a result, making the list is worth millions or even billions in increased shareholder and brand value."

The top five companies on this year's list are Hewlett-Packard Co., Intel Corp., General Mills, International Business Machines Corp. and Kimberly-Clark Corp. The 100 Best are selected from among the large-cap Russell 1000 companies.

Recently, General Mills was also named one of the top 20 Best companies for Leadership by Bloomberg Businessweek.com and was ranked 90th by Fortune magazine among the 100 Best Companies to work for.

Methodology

The list is based on over 360 points of data in seven responsibility categories that are publicly available, including Environment, climate change, human rights, philanthropy, employee relations, financial performance, and corporate governance. General Mills was ranked No. 1 in corporate governance, second in employee relations, 14th in environmental and 18th in philanthropy.

The 100 Best List methodology is published in the 100 Best Corporate Citizens List issue of Corporate Responsibility Magazine, mailed to 20,000 subscribers March 9 and is found online starting at www.thecro.com.
