The CVS Caremark Charitable Trust announced today that it is donating $175,000 to humanitarian organizations involved in the earthquake relief effort in Haiti.

The Trust is donating $125,000 to the American Red Cross, $25,000 to Partners in Health, based in Boston, and $25,000 to Operation Helping Hands, based in Miami.

Partners in Health is a nationally-recognized health agency whose flagship network of clinics in Haiti provides much-needed health services to the island’s residents. Operation Helping Hands is a partnership between the United Way of Miami-Dade and the Miami Herald/el Nuevo Herald established to provide South Florida residents with a way to help their neighbors in need following a disaster or humanitarian crisis.

The CVS Caremark Charitable Trust will also match all CVS Caremark employee donations to the American Red Cross made through the end of January.

"The relief effort underway in Haiti is a challenging task, so we are pleased to support the American Red Cross, Operation Helping Hands and Partners in Health as they provide critical assistance to the Haitian population," said Eileen Howard Dunn, Vice President, CVS Caremark Charitable Trust.

"The $25,000 from the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust will be instrumental in enabling PIH to provide relief and a renewal of hope to thousands of people in Haiti whose lives have been impacted in an unimaginable way by the events of the past week. We are incredibly grateful for their generosity," said Brandie Conforti, Director of Corporate Relations at Partners in Health.

"As Operation Helping Hands turns to the direct family and community ties between the people of South Florida and the people of Haiti to deliver support to those who need it most, we thank CVS Caremark for recognizing the power of our grassroots approach to this humanitarian crisis," said Harve A. Mogul, President and CEO of United Way of Miami-Dade. "This support will have a direct impact on our ability to deliver critical relief both during the immediate aftermath of this disaster and during the longer-term challenges of recovery and rebuilding."
