CHF International, the Silver Spring, MD international development and humanitarian assistance organization, today announces the release of its latest white paper, Double Bottom Line: Public Private Partnerships in Haiti. The white paper, with a focus on corporate social responsibility (CSR), outlines how the private sector can partner with the government and NGOs to spur innovative focused economic development in some of the world's most challenging emerging markets.

Written by CHF's Manager of Resource Development Erin Mote, the paper reinforces the growing importance of focused corporate investment and offers a series of examples focused on how the private sector can create both shareholder and social value objectives, and spur the development of emerging markets, by partnering with NGOs.

Mote writes, "Corporate social responsibility budgets have always been comprised of a small portion of a corporation's operating budget and during a recession are among the first cuts to be made. In these economic times, where finite resources require complex leverage corporations can work with NGOs to fulfill their CSR objectives more effectively."

The release of the white paper coincides with Mote's appearance today at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Global Corporate Citizenship Conference. This year's theme is focused on emerging market development.

"Public-private partnerships can deliver shared business and social value to construct sustainable and effective business models, if done correctly," added Mote. "It's possible to work with corporate investments and the operating side of a budget to increase profits while helping an NGO to meet its mission - and meet a double bottom line."

CHF International works successfully with private sector corporations on a daily basis around the globe, and many top Fortune 500 companies have become their partners including Dow Chemical, Caterpillar, JC Penney Company, Wal-Mart and Chevron Corporation. CHF's mission is to be a catalyst for long-lasting positive change in low- and moderate-income communities around the world, helping to improve their social, economic and environmental conditions. CHF is successful because it brings together the people, organizations and resources necessary to ensure steady, sustainable change.

A current focus of CHF's public private partnership work, as outlined in the white paper is Haiti - the poorest country in the Western hemisphere. Marked by decades of political instability, poverty and humanitarian disasters, Haiti presents one of the world's most complex development challenges. In spite of this complex and challenging environment, CHF and the private sector have created a series of imaginative and innovative public-private partnerships focused on economic development efforts that highlight and harness demand-driven employment to spur long term economic growth. Currently CHF, with its private partners and USAID, is implementing over $100 million worth of infrastructure development projects in Haiti.
