NEW YORK, Sep. 24 /CSRwire/ - A commitment by Ubuntu Education Fund to new academic programs will be recognized by Queen Rania of Jordan on Thursday at the Clinton Global Initiative. The NPO is focused on stabilizing the households of vulnerable children in Port Elizabeth, South Africa by providing access to quality education and health services.

The Queen will showcase the first commitment; the creation of The Ubuntu Scholars Pilot Program. The program offers academic, cultural, and enrichment programs after school that address a wide range of skills from teamwork to creative thinking. The improved academic support is an outgrowth of over 10 years of research, experience in the field, and knowledge of the community in Port Elizabeth. Additionally, the program offers counseling for scholars, and holiday camps to ensure the safety of children during a potentially dangerous time as many students come from child-headed or abusive homes.

The second noteworthy commitment exemplifies the diversity of services offered by the organization. The creation of The Ubuntu Centre (a comprehensive 75,000 square-foot community center featuring a state-of-the-art clinic, technology centre, multimedia library, and community theatre), embodies the organization's unique understanding that panoply of services are required to address the totality of a child's needs. The commitment will ensure that the Centre is technologically equipped with high-speed internet and communication systems in order to provide children access to life-changing technology and ensure that programs are run efficiently.

Ubuntu Education Fund has transformed the lives of over 40,000 children and families within Port Elizabeth. The belief that one cannot change a child’s life until the home is stable is the guiding principle.
