SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 25 /CSRwire/ - BSR has confirmed eBay Inc. President and CEO John Donahoe as a plenary speaker at the BSR Conference 2009, "Reset Economy. Reset World.," which takes place October 20 to 23, 2009, in San Francisco. Donahoe joins a lineup of plenary speakers that includes the CEOs of Alcatel-Lucent, Aramex International (the first Arab firm to go public on the NASDQ), and the Global Reporting Initiative, as well as Nike’s Vice President of Corporate Responsibility.

BSR, which revamped its Conference format to provide more-and more varied-session time than ever before, is also announcing new pre-Conference training workshops, including two half-day sessions on global climate policy and on economic development.

John Donahoe, eBay President and CEO (Plenary Speaker): As eBay President and CEO, Donahoe has global responsibility for growing each of the company's business units, including eBay Marketplaces, PayPal, and Skype. Donahoe joined eBay as President of eBay Marketplaces in 2005, at which time he ran eBay's global ecommerce businesses, which account for a large percentage of the company's revenues. At that time, Donahoe also oversaw a number of strategic acquisitions, including Shopping.com, StubHub, and classifieds sites such as Gumtree and LoQUo. During his three-year tenure in that position, revenues and profits for the division doubled.

Managing Global Climate Policy (Pre-Conference Workshop): This half-day training, led by BSR's climate change experts, will outline key trends in climate policy with a focus on the United Nations process and negotiations in Copenhagen this December. This training will cover how international policy affects global companies, including what they need to monitor and how they can manage risks. "This is a historic time for climate policy, and there are enormous benefits to getting engaged," said session leader Ryan Schuchard, BSR's Manager, Environmental Research & Innovation. "In this training, business leaders will develop analytical frameworks on climate change that they can take away and apply immediately."

Local Economic Development Strategies (Pre-Conference Workshop): For many companies, especially those in the extractives industry, a robust local supplier and business development strategy can help meet community expectations, address project requirements, lower costs, and mitigate risks. However, identifying potential suppliers and building capacity to meet business performance requirements can pose challenges, especially in a developing country context. "This half-day, interactive session will provide company leaders with a range of perspectives on how to make the business case for developing local suppliers, and how to build successful local economic programs using strategic and field-based tools," said BSR's energy and extractives expert, Michael Oxman, Director, Advisory Services. Participants will explore best practices in training, and discover opportunities for community development and social investment.
