Invitation to be a host site during October 3 event

Greenfield, Mass., August 3 /CSRwire.com/ - The Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA) invites home and building owners to join the 2009 Green Buildings Open House, set for Saturday, October 3.

Green Buildings Open House is an annual event in which the public is invited to visit sustainable, energy-efficient homes and other buildings throughout New England, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. Serving as a Host Site is an opportunity to help others learn ways to reduce their carbon footprint and increase the energy-efficiency of their own home or building. Green Buildings Open House, presented by the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA) in conjunction with the American Solar Energy Society's National Solar Tour, allows the public to learn first-hand how incorporating sustainable and energy efficient elements into buildings can help reduce heating costs and even generate surplus clean energy that goes back into the grid to help power other buildings. This event exemplifies that life-style, comfort, and attractive architecture are not sacrificed by utilizing energy-efficient features.

Last year, thousands of people toured more than 600 sustainable buildings, including homes, schools, public buildings, churches, and nature centers from Pennsylvania to Maine to learn about the variety of ways readily available to conserve energy, save money on energy bills, and use sustainable and healthy building materials.

NESEA is pleased to invite new sites to join the extensive list of those welcoming the public on October 3 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. "We are thrilled about the number of host sites returning to participate in the Green Buildings Open House tour, a sure sign that they enjoyed being part of the tour last year and educating the public about their sustainable buildings," said David Barclay, Executive Director of NESEA. "I would like to extend an invitation for new hosts who share pride in owning a sustainable and energy-efficient building to join the tour and help the public learn how they, too, can reduce energy consumption."

There are many features that qualify a building to be a host site. Examples include, but are not limited to, use of photovoltaic panels, wind turbines, geothermal heat pumps, super-insulation, energy-saving appliances, incorporation of passive solar heating or solar hot water collection and storage, and use of sustainable or recycled building materials.

To register your site for Green Buildings Open House, please visit the NESEA website at www.nesea.org/greenbuildings. Registration ends on September 1, 2009.
